Harry Surjadi, M.A.

Harry Surjadi is a Knight International Journalism Fellow and currently involved with the design and launch of a communications project for rural Indonesians in partnership with a leading radio news network in the country. This involves training indigenous people on the use of mobile phone technology in monitoring REDD+ pilot projects in Central Kalimantan.

Surjadi is the founder and first executive director of the Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists (SEIJ).  He has worked as a reporter and editor covering agriculture, technology, and the environment for 20 years.

Earlier too, from 2007-2008, Surjadi was a Knight International Journalism Fellow in Indonesia. During this fellowship, Surjadi helped to launch weekly programs dedicated to the environment at regional newspapers and radio stations.

Surjadi began his journalism career at Trubus, an agriculture magazine. He then worked for the Kompas daily for nearly 10 years. He has worked as a freelance reporter and media trainer in Indonesia and elsewhere in the region. He also has taught courses in online communication at Pelita Harapan University.

A graduate of Bogor Agricultural University in West Java, Indonesia, Surjadi received a master's degree from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.
