Jane Dougan, Ed.D, Jane DOUGAN is Coordinator of Distance Learning at the Oceanographic Center, Nova Southeastern University (NSU), Florida. The Oceanographic Center is the home base for the National Coral Reef Institute (NCRI), an internationally recognized centre for research on coral reef ecology, and the Center of Excellence in Coral Reef Ecosystem Science. Jane has written and taught interdisciplinary courses on environment and development for undergraduates, graduates and adult learners since 1986, in Canada and now at NSU. Her responsibilities include delivery of an online MS in Coastal Zone Management, MS in Environmental Education, a Graduate Certificate in Marine and Coastal Climate Change, and a forthcoming MA in Coastal and Ocean Studies. She is a doctoral candidate in Instructional Technology and Distance Education (2005-2010). The focus of her research is on creating equitable, accessible international on-line environmental education which incorporates experiential learning and local 'sense of place'. Jane has an MSc in International Policy and Human Development (University of Bristol, UK), Professional Development Certificate in Distance Education (University of Wisconsin-Madison), and is a LEAD Fellow from Canada, and a member of the North American Association for Environmental Education and the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (CEC). |
